Volkswagen was Ireland’s most popular car brand in July for new car sales with 15.85% market share. This is the strongest July in the brand’s history in Ireland, bolstered by the continued success of the all-electric ID. range.
Volkswagen had the leading position in the BEV segment with 43.72% market share, meaning that almost half of all electric vehicles sold in July were from the ID. range (ID.3, ID.4 and the recently launched ID.5). The ID.4, the most popular BEV of the month, was also the fifth most sold vehicle (all cars) demonstrating its popularity amongst the total market.
Looking at the year-to-date performance, Volkswagen has retained its 2021 title of Ireland’s most popular BEV brand in 2022 (January – July). The ID.4 remains Ireland’s most popular fully-electric vehicle as it was in 2021. Most notably, the ID.4 is one of the top 10 most popular models sold (all cars, 9th position) year to date in 2022, clearly demonstrating Irish consumers’ appetite for electric vehicles.

Roldolfo Calixto, Volkswagen Brand Director for Ireland said:
“After a challenging start to the year due to global supply chain struggles, we are delighted to see the strong results of the Volkswagen brand here in Ireland, especially the continued success of the ID.4 and ID. range. We are proud to see and support Ireland’s rapid adoption of fully-electric vehicles. We just recently launched the ID.5 and later this year look forward to welcoming the iconic ID. Buzz Passenger and Cargo variants to Ireland, further strengthening our wide range of fully electric Volkswagens on offer to consumers.”
